I have too many rooting interests in this category to let it just sit if Elle Fanning, Rachel Brosnahan or (as some are predicting) Selena Gomez or Sarah Jessica Parker make it in but not Bridgett Everett (Somebody Somewhere), Issa Rae (Insecure), Helene Yorke (The Other Two), Renée Elise Goldsberry (Girls5eva), Alia Shawkat (Search Party), or especially neither Maya Erskine nor Anna Konkle (Pen15).

I think it's too small and too genre-straddling to really contend, but I would love to see Somebody Somewhere get some nominations--Bridgett Everett for sure, but several of the supporting cast would deserve it as well, as well as writers and directors. I don't even know where I would nominate it--I guess Comedy makes the most sense, but most of the things that stand out are dramatic moments.

And as someone who's been watching through Yellowstone, I kind of get why season four might get recognition that the other seasons didn't get, because I think it is (at least halfway through season four) an improvement on the earlier seasons. It's much less unpleasant, much less, "these are horrible people doing horrible things, but they are our horrible people". But also a lot of the things that make it better than the first three seasons don't really resonate without the context of what made the first three seasons such a chore, so I don't know that a person who hasn't seen the first three seasons will really appreciate how much season four improves on the first three seasons. And it's entertaining but it's still not exactly world-class TV. Jacki Weaver, basically playing a variation on her Animal Kingdom character as a corporate executive, is a lot of fun, would not mind seeing her get a guest actress nomination.

Laurie Metcalf is great in The Dropout but her part is pretty teeny-tiny. I think Kate Burton makes more of an impact in her role and nails the emotional lows of her character.

Where’s Reneé Z in The Thing About Pam? She and Judy Greer will be nominated, mark my words.

I haven't seen enough to really weigh in, but I'd be surprised if The Dropout doesn't make the Best Limited Series lineup, especially considering how recently it came out.
