The Emmy Awards take a tiny step forward: https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/televi ... 235002002/

So, some recognition that not all actors fit the gender binary. However, the binary continues to be reinforced with the binary categories, thus forcing some actors (or their reps) to choose an incorrect category or bowing out altogether.

How do you all think the various awards organizations will be handling this issue in the future?

The "performer" or "acting" link doesn't work.

I still need to watch the final episode of Mare of Easttown but I would say that Kate Winslet is very very good in this. It might be her best work ever. She would be a very deserving winner.

In the comedy side I've just finished the last season of The Kominski Method (it's only 6 episodes) and both Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner are a joy to watch together after all this years. Douglas would be a very deserving winner. Don't want to spoil the show but the Emmy for guest actor in a comedy series might be locked as well.

I looked it up. It got bad reviews. I'm predicting Ted Danson because the category is a bit empty and he's a beloved veteran coming off of The Good Place.

At this point, it's clear that television and music have become the dominant artistic mediums of our time. Movies just aren't anymore and that's a shame. And yet, when I see every category of the Emmys with six, seven, or eight nominations, I just don't care. This award feels absolutely meaningless in a way that no other award does. Not the Oscar, Grammy, or Tony. Expand every category to twenty? Who cares.

That said, great predictions. I'd be surprised if Juno Temple wasn't nominated for Ted Lasso alongside Hannah Waddingham. Keeley Jones may not be a huge stretch for Temple but as depictions of influencers have dominated our zeitgeist, Keely is one of the more sympathetic and nuanced ones. It's like Keely Jones has starts the series where Schitt's Creek's Alexis Rose leaves off. The more I think about it, I think Juno Temple could win. If not her, who would be favored?
