"The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2018 [is] divided equally between William D. Nordhaus 'for integrating climate change into long-run macroeconomic analysis' and Paul M. Romer 'for integrating technological innovations into long-run macroeconomic analysis.'"

"The Nobel Peace Prize 2018 [is] awarded jointly to Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad 'for their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict.'"

"The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2018 was divided, one half awarded to Frances H. Arnold 'for the directed evolution of enzymes', the other half jointly to George P. Smith and Sir Gregory P. Winter 'for the phage display of peptides and antibodies.'"

The Physics Prize is historical for a couple of reasons. Donna Strickland becomes only the third woman ever to win the Physics Prize - physics being a male-dominated field, to the point of notoriety (Ironically, the first woman ever to win any Nobel Prize did so for physics).

Secondly, at the age of 96, Arthur Ashkin becomes to the oldest person to win any Nobel Prize. The previous record-holder, Leonid Hurwicz, won the Economics Prize at the age of 90.

"The Nobel Prize in Physics 2018 [is] awarded 'for groundbreaking inventions in the field of laser physics' with one half to Arthur Ashkin 'for the optical tweezers and their application to biological systems', the other half jointly to Gérard Mourou and Donna Strickland 'for their method of generating high-intensity, ultra-short optical pulses' ."

Also, apparently the reason the Literature Prize is postponed is that the husband of a committee member was recently convicted of rape and this has led to his wife and several other committee members withdrawing.

The 2018 Nobel Prizes are being awarded this week. Today "the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2018 was awarded jointly to James P. Allison and Tasuku Honjo 'for their discovery of cancer therapy by inhibition of negative immune regulation.' "

Tuesday is the Physics Prize; Wednesday is Chemistry; Friday is Peace; and, next Monday is Economic Sciences. The Literature Prize will not be awarded this year, but, will be postponed until 2019. Is Glenn Close on the Literature committee?
