Re: New Developments III
Of course it's because of his impeachment.
The neocons have been pushing for Soliemani's assassination for decades but neither George W. Bush or Obama would take the bait nor would Trump until now. There's no question that Soliemani was a bad hombre, but this not only takes impeachment out of the headlines, it gets Trump back in Bolton's favor thus (in his mind anyway) silencing him on what he knows about Ukraine. This is about as close as we've gotten yet to Trump shooting someone on 5th Avenue and getting away with it. It puts us on the brink of war if not in war with Iran's many proxies around the globe who will act in Iran's behalf so the ayatollahs can continue to plead ignorance of their actions while the world becomes less and less safe.
It also puts an end to any possible non-nuclear negotiations with the Iranians. Even if Trump is replaced by a normal thinking president, there will also be the possibility that another Trump will come along and then what? Do any country's leaders, aside from Netanyahu's Israel and maybe the Saudi princes, trust the U.S. to do the right thing after this?

Meanwhile, every NATO country is crossing their fingers, hoping Iran specifically doesn't retaliate on American soil.
Re: New Developments III
I think that's wishful thinking on your part. Most of the world is sick to death with America's "interference" in other countries. If Iran retaliates its going to be on mainland United States which will make 9/11 look like a cocktail party.Precious Doll wrote:
3) Whilst this could certainly be the turning point to escalate the tensions in the region to something with unthinkable consequences it at the end of the day would probably end up a worse outcome for Iran and other countries than say the U.S., which will give Iran cause to action with great care. And they are certainly more capable of that than Trump.

Maybe not is so far as:Sabin wrote:Okay... I need someone to tell me this isn't as bad as I think.

1) Iran has a lot of internal problems. Recently there have been mass protests in relation to a sharp increase in the price of oil which sent people out in the streets on mass to protest resulting in hundreds being slaughtered. Plus the Government has the on-going issues of growing discord amongst the population, particularly younger people for more than a decade now and that ain't going way;
2) I would like to think the Iranian Government is shrewd enough to leave this as a 'war of words'. After all, Trump may be gone in one years time but if he isn't, well we'll just have to wait and see. The world has already put up with the buffoon for three years and its within everyones interests to just sit out the remaining year(?) and let him rant and carry on and don't go beyond anything but the verbal. Very hard though with all the testosterone flying around in politics;

So, I just saw news about the election in the United Kingdom; and, it looks like there is a reasonable chance that Scotland will leave the United Kingdom.
Re: New Developments III
Today, Trump tweeted: "So ridiculous. Greta must work on her Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill Greta, Chill!"
So, Greta responded by changing her Twitter homepage to "Greta Thunberg: a teenager working on her anger management problem. Currently chilling and watching a good old fashioned movie with a friend."
I mean, that's the world where we live in. The President of the United States mocks a sixteen year old girl with Asperger's, diminishing her fears about climate change, and she takes the higher ground in real time.
My only problem with giving Greta Thunberg the Person of the Year award is that it truly belongs to her AND the climate strikers. It's the young generation that are going to live through a dying world and are inspiring previous generations to take it more seriously. Maybe it should be Generation of the Year, those who won't survive planet death.

Interesting, but not nearly as much macabre fun as this Vanity Fair article I discovered while reading it:

Good Lord. To everyone who says the Federal Government is wasteful, there is absolutely no way the Federal Government is anywhere near as wasteful as Wall Street and the big banks.

Re: New Developments III
On the other hand, this is typical of the same deluded old Republican bitches:
"They have already lost millions of voters, it will be a shoe in for president trump."
"We waited a long, long time to get a real President. We have to keep him. We also need to get the House back and expand the Freedom Caucus. So proud of our republican reps yesterday. !"
"The Democrats are known to "push the envelope" and don't believe in boundaries, because THEY think they are above the law."
"They're trying to get it passed where illegals can vote hoping they'll get all their votes, I pray that doesn't happen."

Re: New Developments III
I watched Boris Johnson's acceptance speech on his elevation to British Prime Minister - had to turn it off, this guy's obvious phoniness is worse than Trump's. I swear we're living in a real-life version of The Boys from Brazil. There are at least these two Hitler clones that they didn't eradicate.
