Good luck with that. I was really struggling to find/remember worthy nominees in the supporting categories, as i have seen all these films a long time ago.
In additon to the two Louises who have already been named in supporting actress, there were Fredi Washington in Imitation of Life, flora Robson in the same role Dresser played in Catherine the Great; Maureen O'Sullivan and Una O'Connor in The Barretts of Wimpole Street; Shirley Temple in a slew of fims, most notably Little Miss Marker; Alice Brady in The Gay Divorcee; ZaSu Pitts in Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch and Dames and if we can verify a 1934 U.K. premiere for David Copperfield we can include Edna May Oliver and Jessie Ralph as well.

For supporting actor there were Frank Morgan in The Affairs of Cellini; Charles Laughton in The Barretts of Wimpole Street; Leo Carrillo in Viva Villa!; Boris Karloff in The Lost Patrol; Edward Everett Horton adn Erik Rhodes in The Gay Divorcee; Guy Kibbee in Dames' Louis Calhern and Sidney Blackmer in The Count of Monte Cristo and if David Copperfield is permitted, Freddie Bartholomew, W.C. Fields, Basil rathbone, Lewis Stone and Roland Young.

You can call these films whatever you want. :)

Since Cinemanolis took quite a few of my choices (this year involves me having seen a pittance of films), I'm going to have to pass a lot.

Directing: Frank Capra - It Happened One Night

Actress: Claudette Colbert - It Happened One Night

Cinematography: It Happened One Night

Art Direction: It Happened One Night

Costume Design: It Happened One Night

Sound: It Happened One Night
Wesley Lovell

Can we call Ukikusa Monogatari by its better known English title, A Story of Floating Weeds?

I have seen very little from this year, maybe only a handful, so I would like to bow out from this year's list. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Be sure to check release dates before duplicating the other 1934 game. Queen Christina and Flying Down to Rio are ineligible, they were 1933 releases in New York.

L'Atalante and Hitchcock's original version of The Man Who Knew Too Much are among the foreign film releases that do qualify here.

I really wanted to reveal that Eric was wrong earlier, but I left it as a clue to be deciphered until the last person made their choices. Now that that's occurred, I can reveal the new year.

The Clue: Random acts of fate have managed to cross over from the Nominations Elimination game.

Now, Eric assumed it was the 2003 year, but really the above could have referenced ANY of the years the Nominations Elimination game had done. However, that is not the correct answer.

The correct answer is: 1934.

For festival films only, right?

2003 is going to be a pretty bleak year for this game without eliminating In America. City of God, Dirty Pretty Thiings and The Magdalene Sisters are all ineligible having had their first theatrical showings in their coutnries of origin (Brazil, Great Britian, Ireland, respectively) in 2002.

In that case, I think we should go with the year of first presentation at a festival.
