Years ago I remember reading somewhere that In Old Chicago was not shown anywhere in 1937 but was a 1937 Oscar nominee because it opened in L.A. on the last day of qualifying, which that year was January 12, 1938. However I can't find the source so I guess without proof we'll have to live with the IMDB's very vague "premiere" date of 1937.
