Not to be picky but the 1980 U.K. showing was film festival only. It had its official premiere in 1981. Bob Hoskins won the Evening Standard award for best actor and was nominated for a BAFTA in 1982 for 1981 work.

It was completed in 1979. It premiered in the UK in 1980, was released in some countries in 1981, and was released in the States in 1982.

For me it would be 1980, but not everyone uses the same standard as me.

'Long Good Friday' is considered a 1980, 1981 or 1982 film?

I think this might be because you seem to have a general aversion to Jessica Lange, from the looks of your nominations... :;):

And how did Diana Scarwid end up with an Oscar nod for Inside Moves?

Why exactly was Beverly D'Angelo passed over this year for Coal Miner's Daugher in the Best Supporting Actress category? She was nominated for the Globe. I think that her rendition of Patsy Cline was the best performance of her career. We get the animatronic Diana Scarwid nominated for the virtually un-watchable Inside Moves instead? All in all, it seemed like a pretty weak year in that category, except for Eileen Brennan and Mary Steenburgen who is wonderful in Melvin and Howard.

It seems kind of ironic that D'Angelo lost out on Cathy Moriarty's role in Raging Bull as well as the subsequent nod.
"The mantle of spinsterhood was definitely in her shoulders. She was twenty five and looked it."
