She's been nominated for five BAFTAs (The Hours, Cold Mountain, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd, Atonement) and a Goya (Goya's Ghosts) and she must have an OFTA nomination or two.

Ditto part deux!

Yes, Bujold was memorable as Anne Boleyn. Portman comes across as a cranky teen in comparison. Bujold is magnificent in the prison scene at the end with Burton - just before she is beheaded.

Yes, but it's the kind of movie which makes one think fondly of something like Anne of the Thousand Days - that overlong, overwritten film that was infamously nominated for I don't know how many Oscars in 1969 and was deservedly beaten by Midnight Cowboy - in what was rightly seen as the triumph of a new, edgier Hollywood over a tired, uninspired, "old" vision of cinema. Still, that now forgotten movie is a masterpiece compared to this new one on the same subject - and while Genevieve Bujold wasn't as beautiful as Natalie Portman, in my mind she's still THE Anne Boleyn - this one will quickly vanish from sight and from memory. (And I don't even want to talk about Eric Bana as Henry VIII...).
