I don't think that Mrs. Gallagher was a prostitute per se. Rather she was a "good time girl" who slept around with men who took care of her.

I just saw this film. Thanks for the recommendation, Damien and Big Magilla, I absolutely loved it.

A question though: I was patrolling the IMDb boards of this film and one poster brought up a very interesting point: Was (or at least at one point in the past) Patsy's mother a prostitute? It was never explicitly said but based on what I can remember, I guess it's possible.
