I will back up cam for the first time and ask for a contest. But if we could start it Friday or Saturday would be nice, since I'm planning on being at a relative's house for the annual family Oscar party. I would like to participate in the fun.

Speaking of speeches :D

WHITAKER OFFERED OSCARS SPEECH HELP

Oscars favourite FOREST WHITAKER has been offered public speaking help after a string of flustered speeches at recent awards shows. THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND star is hotly tipped to walk away with a Best Actor Academy Award on Sunday (25EB07) for his role as former Ugandan dictator IDI AMIN. But fans and cast members are fearful he'll embarrass himself on stage with a nervous and ill-prepared acceptance speech. Speechmaking organisation Toastmasters International has offered tailored advice to prevent any public gaffes, including his BAFTA Awards' forgetfulness to thank his wife. A spokesman for the firm says, "An acceptance speech needs to be memorable for the right reason. The key is gratitude, recognition and sincerity with a controlled delivery." And Whitaker's latest screenwriter is quick to agree the tongue-tied star needs help. He says, "There comes a moment where you want to say, 'Forest, you can't be surprised any more. You have won everything else. It's not hubristic to turn up with a couple of remarks written down.'"

Wouldn't that be spectacular? I don't think she'll be in control of her emotions enough to do that, but that would be an absolutely amazing moment.

I don´t keep statistics in my mind but I´ve been reading somewhere that Jackie Earl Haley won 6 of the seven times he was nominated, the award for his performance in Little Children. Is that true.?

OscarGuy wrote:And I disagree that Cohen was even a solid contender. I never saw him as the fifth-slot prediction.

First: Comedic performance (If Jim Carrey can't even get nominated for stellar performances in dramas for which he received plenty of attention in those years, Cohen wasn't going to get it)

Second: Cameron Diaz syndrome (Cohen received the high profile award but had as much chane at a nod as Diaz did when she won for There's Something About Mary)

Third: SAG (Gosling got a SAG nod, Cohen didn't. That should have been the Cohen supporters major smack on the side of the head)

All signs pointed towards Gosling getting a nomination (he was always in a solid fourth place position in most everyone's predictions I was seeing). There were a scant few that thought Cohen would get in and Gosling would not but I'll bet that 90% of this board's prognosticators and those in the world at large saw Gosling as more of a contender than Cohen.

A solid 4th before Leo in The Departed? I never said Cohen was a solid contender, but a solid threat for 5th. It got to a point where he and Gosling were playing musical chairs with the slight edge to the latter due to industry respect and subject matter, despite HN having zero B.O. And I think that the big difference b/w Cohen and Diaz was that audiences and critics applauded the former for his ingenious take, but the latter was just deemed as "cute." Gosling was the young breakout indie performer, a la Catalina Sandeno Moreno, but just like her and DiCaprio, nommed for the wrong performance, are included to lose.

If Reese Witherspoon calls any other name besides O'Toole or Whitaker this Sunday it'll be Smith(even though Gosling is my personal favorite).
