Oscar Nominated Movies Now Streaming

I usually ignore clickbait articles that pop up in my Yahoo feed, but this one seemed like it might be worth checking out. It wasn't.

If it were written by a young kid just getting into movies, there might be some excuse for his ignorance, but it was written by a man who will be 79 years old on February 18, 2024.

Colman Andrews is a food critic who runs an entertainment website. He lists the 28 single best Oscar nominated performances in films now available for streaming on various platforms as compiled from UUADb. ratings, his own website, and some other website that features one-stop access to films now streaming. Although he explains the criteria used for inclusion on the list, it doesn't make any sense.

The way it's worded, only performers who were the sole nominee for their films are included, but then he includes performers in films who were not the sole nominees of their films including Teresa Wright who he lumps together with Albert Basserman in Foreign Correspondent, calling them both obscure. He includes Wright's performance in The Pride of the Yankees, ignoring both co-nominee Gary Cooper in the title role and the fact that the "obscure" Wright was nominated for three Oscars in two years and won that year in the supporting category for Mrs. Miniver.

Also on the list are Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump, Laurence Olivier in Wuthering Heights, and Ava Gardner in Mogambo, none of whom were the sole acting nominee in their films.
