If this turns out to be the AMPAS 10, can you remember a better slate? Of the 8 I've seen to date, Maestro is probably the least good -- and i mostly quite liked Maestro. (The two remaining are Poor Things and the Zone of Interest, and seeing how they're among the year's most acclaimed, it's hard to imagine them falling short.)

Never, as I keep saying, say never. but this seems close to a death-blow to The Color Purple -- especially on top of its exclusion from virtually all other guilds, and the box-office flame-out. The only two positives it's received -- best film nomination from the Broadcasters and best cast from SAG -- are two indicators famous for clinging to pre-establshed narratives/not catching up with critical/audience resistance. (For precedent, both those groups nominated Nine.)

I honestly can't see a way these aren't the Best Picture nominees. Air, The Color Purple, and May December desperately needed this to stay in. Sure Color Purple might still surprise, but what would it get in over? I can't imagine any of these.

Animated Feature, however, I could see them swapping out two (Mario and Turtles).

Did these ever correlated 100% with best picture at the Oscars? Because this list sure looks like the nominated 10
