National Society of Film Critics Predictions

Post by Sabin »

A bit tricky to predict these guys. They've had a taste for consensus over the last few years. Over the last few years, they tend to rubber stamp existing winners or their breaks for the new either involve giving extra love for previous winners (Drive My Car for Best Actor and Director) or being the voice to finally honor critic's choices that mysteriously haven't gone without through the big four (Nomadland, Kerry Condon, Ruth Negga), the exceptions being Gerta Gerwig (Best Director), Anders Danielsen Lie (Best Supporting Actor), and Charlotte Wells (Aftersun). The last time they really went outside the box was The Rider for Best Picture.

I'm torn. I think Killers of the Flower Moon is a very likely winner as a compromise choice but I also have a hard time seeing Past Lives cruising through the season without a win, so this is my compromise choice.

Best Picture: Killers of the Flower Moon
Best Film Not in the English-Language: Perfect Days
Best Director: Celine Song, Past Lives
Best Actor: Andrew Scott, All of Us Strangers
Best Actress: Sandra Huller, Anatomy of a Fall & The Zone of Interest
Best Supporting Actor: Charles Melton, May December
Best Supporting Actress: Rachel McAdams, Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret.
Best Screenplay: May December
Best Cinematography: The Zone of Interest
Best Non-Fiction Film: The Menus-Plaisirs - Les Troigros
