I wish it was a relief that he died, but all that damage has been done and can’t be undone. The best I can hope is that he will fade from infamy and become largely forgotten, especially by me.

They do die in threes after all. Three of the most repulsive human beings ever to grace this earth died within a couple of days of each other: Pat Robertson, comedian and family man Pat Cooper, and James Watt, president of the Beach Boys Fan Club.

The first thought that popped into my mind is the number of people I've known who didn't live to see him die. It's just unfair. Every eulogy should be “He had so much to live for. He never got to see Pat Robertson die.” He is one of those guys who, it's like, nobody should die before that guy.

Second thought was I wondered if every Republican who ran for President in 1988 has now died. And it's true. Pat Robertson, George H.W. Bush, Bob Dole, Jack Kemp, Pierre S. du Pont, Alexander Haig, Paul Laxalt, Harold Stassen (he never gave up), and whomever Jack Fellure is. Thanks, wikipedia! The only other candidate listed on that page who hasn't passed away is Donald Trump who apparently declined to seek the nomination. At some point, I will be revising that statement.

Anyway, if there are any truly good people who are/were associated with Pat Robertson but somehow deserve sympathy (which I guess is possible although I don't see how?) my thoughts and prayers.

There's an adage that goes "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." Since Robertson didn't live by it, I won't either. If there's a hell, I hope he's burning in it.

Good riddance to a vile, contemptible human being whose screed poisoned generations of Americans against the progress the LGBTQ+ community has been pushing for. He's part of the reason why we are still fighting for the rights our queer forbears fought and died trying to enable.

I think this is the first death notice I posted without starting it with R.I.P. My immediate reaction was "good", but it's not good. It might have been good if it happened sixty-two years ago before he spread his evil under his brand of religion which is Christian in name only.

Mika Brzezinski had the perfect sendup on Morning Joe:

Some news that just crossed right now. Pat Robertson has died at the age of 93.

He founded the Christian Broadcasting Network in 1961, building it into a global empire.

Robertson was known for his 700 Club television show, which helped him gain a massive following. He’s credited with making religion a pillar of Republican politics, creating the Christian Coalition.

He was also known for his on-air pronouncements, which drew frequent criticism. He often spoke about God’s judgment of America on issues like abortion, homosexuality, pornography, and even the teaching of (pauses for emphasis) evolution.

Pat Robertson has passed away at the age of 93.

For much of this millennium, I've been blissfully unaware of his still being alive. The last bleat I can remember from him was his colloquium with Jerry Falwell about how the US deserved 9/11 because, gay!

The only sad part of today: knowing his movement has captured absolute control of one of America's major political parties.
