You never know with these things, but I'm fairly confident with my predictions except for supporting actor.

I thought of Dolly De Leon for supporting actress in Triangle of Sadnessbut she seems more like an LAFC type pick than a NYFC pick. NY is more likely to go for a veteran stage actress like the otherwise obscure Kathryn Hunter last year. which makes Kerry Condon in The Banshees of Inisherin an ideal pick. That makes supporting actor all the more difficult to predict, because unless I'm missing something, they've never gone for three acting winners in the same film.

It's difficult to see NY going for Ke Huy Quan in Everything, Everywhere All at Once, although that's certainly possible. Nor are they likely to go for Ben Whishaw in Women Talking while ignoring all the women. They are rarely sentimental, so I don't see them going for Judd Hirsch in The Fabelmans, but that's certainly possible, too. My gut tells me it will be one of the Banshee boys, most likely Barry Keoghan, but I'm prepared to be surprised.

I do.

I'm going to have to watch that one again. I expected far more dissenters than I've encountered.

When I read these awards were coming Friday, my thought was, can't we get a few more movies first? It's really sad to know these prizes will be voted from such a paltry field...this in a year allegedly more "normal" than the previous two.

Interesting scenario you propose, Sabin: The Fabelmans -- the year-long "surefire front-runner" online -- by virtue of a soft box-office opening, would now become a scrappy underdog the critics would try to boost.

My standard winner/two runners-up:

Film: TAR
(The Banshees of Inisherin, Aftersun)

Non-Fiction: All the Beauty and the Bloodshed
