Extraordinary designer, lauded for his work on stage (3 Tony wins, 13 additional nominations) and screen (Oscar for All That Jazz, nominations for Mary Poppins and Murder on the Orient Express). He worked with the best for many years, because they knew he was the best.

Because he designed the set for Grand Hotel, I met him on a few occasions, and my wife knew him well. He was a genuinely nice man, in addition to all else.
