Easy choice with 1927/28. I don't really even need to consider the other years.

It came down to deciding between the first Oscars and 1937. 1937 had more volume with the added categories, but the quality of the films at the top was a bit higher in the first year. My favorites from that year include The Last Command, 7th Heaven, Two Arabian Knights, Speedy, and Wings. I didn't really like Sunrise when I watched it 20+ years ago, but it was on a vhs tape with a pretty poor quality picture. I read that it was restored after that and I plan to give it another try eventually.

1936 was the first year they included supporting players among the nominees, but 1937 had a stronger set of nominees in all categories, although it's still not as good as it could have been had they included Make Way for Tomorrow among the nominees.
