The Tony Awards are happening this year after all.
I wonder if they'll have enough contenders to honor.
But more than that, I think this would be a good way to raise awareness that live theater is the branch of the entertainment industry that's been hardest hit by the pandemic.

I was so pleased to see that Paul Hilton and Lois Smith both won featured acting Drama Desk Awards for their performances in The Inheritance. Richly deserved.

Coronavirus and the Tonys
This is even more bizarre than what's going on, or more to the point not going on, with the Oscars.
The Outer Critics Circle and the Drama Desk Awards have already been handed out for the 2019-2020 theatrical season but the Tonys have not. They keep moving the goalpost unrealistically, now anticipating that Broadway will magically reopen after Labor Day. The IBDB (Internet Broadway Database) still lists shows scheduled to open between March 5 and April 30, 2020 that haven't officially announced closings as having opened on those dates. This is presumably to keep them eligible for Tony so that if Broadway does open back up after Labor Day, they can all open between then and say Halloween and be nominated for 2019-2020 Tonys to be given out the Sunday before Thanksgiving or some other arbitrary date.
IBDB seems to be living in a world of alternate reality where shows like Company, Diana, Mrs. Doubtfire and Six have already opened and are still running.
