I checked this and it appears you're right. However, I presume that in those states where the constitution permits legislation through referendums, it should theoretically be possible to call for a constitutional convention that way also (although I don't see that happening).

Here is something inspiring from the opposite end of the spectrum over 70 years ago.

I agree it seems unlikely that they could get away with this, but then no one including Trump himself thought he would be elected.

Are you sure? Article V only speaks about State Legislatures, the Governors should not matter.

Scary, but not going to happen.

It requires passage in 34 states. Their own article says: Republicans control "32 state legislatures and 33 governorships, including 25 “trifectas,”"

They have to control all three chambers in order to pass their legislation. If they only control 25, it seems unlikely they'll ever get to 34, especially after this election.

I've read that the Conservatives will only be able to put together an unstable minority government, not a coalition government. This could lead to another round of elections before the end of the year, perhaps leading to Corbyn as Prime Minister, which would produce world-wide-political-shock waves.

Magilla, I had no idea you were Melania Trump's dearest. I promise I won't tell Donald.

The story that's gotten my interest more than any other is the Grenfell tower fire in London. The fire was bad enough. If you've seen pictures and footage of it, you know how horrifying it was, and the people who were fortunate enough to escape are in a nightmare right now. But Theresa May.... words fail me. How tone deaf can someone be? She should not be the leader of the U.K., because - simply put - she can not lead.

They've begun to follow the money. It's not "loans" from Russia that is the problem, it's "payoffs". They know there were payoffs, but who was paid and for what? That's the big unknown at the moment.

And so we begin the long journey of investigating President Trump's obstruction of justice and ties to Russia. After months of reporting, we will finally learn that...he fired Comey and he took a loan from Russia...surpriiiise!

Obviously, there is more, but I wonder if this is enough to oust him. The American people know this, so they will feel let down. And if Watergate "wasn't about the crime, but the coverup"...what cover up? He just fired somebody when he shouldn't have because he's an idiot. There aren't going to be any tapes that reveal anything akin to the darkness of Nixon. Paul Ryan's defense is stupid ("he's new at this") but it could be his saving grace. Had Trump the evil genius of Nixon and were it to be revealed, that would be a bombshell. I'm afraid that if they don't uncover anything we don't already know that he will survive this.

Yes. "Happy Birthday, Mr. President, you're under criminal investigation."

He was aware of that, of course, when he made a big show of Comey "vindicating" him for saying he was not under investigation prior to his firing. For all we know, he leaked the story or ordered it leaked to regain the headlines. He can't stand a day in which he isn't the biggest news story, good or bad.
