She is clearly NOT a lead in the film. So you are hoping for category fraud.
It's a prediction Reza. Not a wish

*shrugs*

I suppose this will be one of those boring predictions, but I'm just not feeling many surprises for tomorrow. Too bad they release the shortlists for some categories ahead of time. The "snub" of Elle would have been one of the big surprises.

OK, under the wire. I came to many of the same conclusions as BJ...among them, deciding that, though we have no proof it's mathematically possible, the lack of enthusiasm beyond the core group of films has me predicting only 7 nominees.

My hope, as always, is for the dreary consensus to be shattered, but not at the expense of one of MY favorites. And one deal-breaker: if Meryl Streep gets in best actress ahead of any of Portman/Huppert/Adams/Bening, I'll be officially sick of her hogging these spots.

I'll just repeat what I said on Cinemasight.com when I made the same predictions:

This is one of those years in which there is a lot of consensus, so I suspect most of these will make the cut of 8 or 9. The most vulnerable seems to be Loving, but I’m betting against the odds on this one.

I'll try to post here later in the day -- at least the major categories -- but, meantime, an observation: In the years since the expansion of both PGA and the Oscar best picture field, ever year there's been at least one film on the Oscar slate that didn't appear at PGA. In fact, since the sliding number of nominees standard was introduced in 2011, the formula has always been, subtract 2-3 from PGA and add 1 new title. Granted, trends are trends till they aren't anymore..but I'm struck by how few people here added any title that didn't appear at PGA -- only snick's guy (Nocturnal Animals), Magilla (Loving) and anonymous (Sing Street).

I'm not even sure what other new title could spring to mind -- except Jackie, which seems too much to hope for. But it does seem an anomaly few are acknowledging.
