Re: Final Predictions

I don't think it's been decided upon at all, I am just going with the hunch that they both end up in supporting. The Academy doesn't have a great track record of fixing category fraud on its own (I can only think of 2 examples, Winslet and Castle-Hughes) and Supporting Actress feels even more barren than Lead Actress. If they get a nomination based on whichever category they qualify in first, can't you see more people putting Mara and Vikander as a 1 or 2 on Supporting Actress than Lead Actress, where they may have one of the other three very popular choices above them?

Okay, I guess I just missed the memo that the Vikander/Mara supporting or lead debacle had been fully decided upon. Weren't most folks thinking that at least one of them would make it into lead? I have a hard time believing that after all the debate the whole season about this particular issue, the numerous article written about it vis-à-vis these two performances, the amount of time we've devoted to it on the UAADB alone -- that voters are going to just going to up and follow Weinstein like lemmings and place both of these women on the supporting ballot. It's much more likely that one of the two performances gets left off altogether, frankly.

I loved Lawrence in Joy and would be quite happy with that nomination (even though she was acting quite cunty backstage at the Globes), but I'm not entirely sold on the idea. Maybe by the end of the day.

She was in my fifth slot already. The question is, if Mara and Vikander go supporting, who gets the fifth slot? My guess is it goes to Lawrence, who is starting to feel like she is having one of those Academy streaks where they get nominated for most anything. I could see a surprise name in the category, but don't know who that would be.

This feels way too conservative a list for such a wild year -- I fully expect some crazy surprises. (Heck, last year seemed much more settled, and we still saw Bennett Miller, Bradley Cooper, Marion Cotillard, Laura Dern, and the Inherent Vice script surprise. And down-ballot, the directors of The LEGO Movie got a pretty cold splash of water.)
