I love what you wrote about this one. You gave the move what it deserved.

I actually love what you wrote about the other movies, too - amd now I am really curious to see them. And to be honest I kind of loved what you wrote about the only one which - except for the Sorrentino - I have actually seen. I don't exactly agree with you (and number 1 is probably a bit too much), but I can see your point. And - last bit not least - I'd love to know what you think about Blue is the Warmest Color, which isn't in your top 11, so I guess you didn't really appreciate it. But why?

Top eleven films of the year. Still plenty left to see, but this was my personal cut-off to put a list out on the Internets.

1. Before Midnight (Richard Linklater)
2. The Great Beauty (Paolo Sorrentino)
3. Bastards (Claire Denis)
4. Upstream Color (Shane Carruth)
5. Computer Chess (Andrew Bujalski)
6. Student (Darezhan Omirbayev)
7. Museum Hours (Jem Cohen)
8. Neighboring Sounds (Kleber Mendonça Filho)
9. Sun Don't Shine (Amy Seimetz)
10. The Girl from Nowhere (Jean-Claude Brisseau)
11. A Touch of Sin (Jia Zhang Ke)

I have seen Her, The Wolf of Wall Street, 12 Years a Slave, American Hustle, Gravity, You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet, Tabu, Frances Ha, and Drug War, among others.

I have more commentary here if anyone is curious - http://elusivelucidity.blogspot.com/201 ... s-end.html

I don't mean any offense and enjoy the incredibly wide ranging views on films intelligently debated on this board...but I simply cannot figure this one out...
I hate just about everything Sofia Coppola has done post Virgin Suicides. The film drags, is terribly unfunny, and the script is awful.

I guess I went into Spring Breakers expecting another great work like Gummo. The film would have been fine, but James Franco ruins every single film he is in. The film was visually fun, but, God, if I didn't want to throw up after seeing it. It's just not my cup of tea. Also, I guarantee you other films like A Madea Christmas and Razzie-worthy films would weed these films out of my not top ten, but there's zero chance I would see those films, so I cannot make a fair judgment.

Whilst it is too early to compile a top 10 for 2013 I will provide the list that I submitted to the Senses of Cinema website for their annual poll. Essentially this list are the top 10 films I have seen from late December 2012 to late December 2013 and gives a hint of some titles that are likely to appear in my final list.

1. Ida (Pawel Pawlikowski, 2013)
2. Nebraska (Alexander Payne, 2013)
3. Behind the Candelabra (Steven Soderbergh, 2013)
4. Like Father, Like Son (Hirokazu Koreeda, 2013)

6. Call Girl (Mikael Marcimain, 2012)
7. Gore Vidal: The United States of Amnesia (Nicholas D. Wrathall, 2013)
8. Penance (Kiyoshi Kurosawa, 2012)
9. L'inconnu du lac (Stranger by the Lake, Alain Guiraudie, 2013)
10. Sightseers (Ben Wheatley, 2012)
"I want cement covering every blade of grass in this nation! Don't we taxpayers have a voice anymore?" Peggy Gravel (Mink Stole) in John Waters' Desperate Living (1977)
