Yes, it's available in several versions - as a four-disc set, as a one-disc DVD and a one-disc Blu-ray. It's even available for streaming at Amazon.com.

Holy crud. You think I would have heard about Battle Royale being released only last year.Big Magilla wrote:In the Mood for Love was 2001 in the U.S. and Battle Royale did not open theatrically in the U.S. until 2011.
Do you know if it's on Region 1 DVD yet? I've been waiting ages for that. The author of the book died before he could sign rights over to a Region 1 DVD so that's been in limbo for a while. The book is absolutely spectacular too. A personal favorite.

The Claim is a superb film. Because it opened here in New York in 2001, I have it in my records as the third best film of that year, behind A.I. and Djomeh. Following The Claim on my 10 Best list are Mulholland Drive, The Gleaners and I, The Royal Tanenbaums, In The Mood For Love, The Wrckmeister Harmonies, Kandahar, and Shallow Hal.
I wonder why Wes Bentley didn't become a star. He's terrific, even in the execrable American Beauty.

The Claim was probably 2000's most underappreciated gem. It's a very interesting reworking of The Mayor of Casterbridge and the way the film attempts to shift audience opinion of each of the protagonists throughout the course of the narrative makes it a fascinating character study.
And it's beautifully shot, too.
