I'm going to post the membership this year. As I've posted elsewhere, The New York Film Critics are getting pretty vanilla these days. Past winners include The Artist, The Social Network, The Hurt Locker, Milk, and No Country for Old Men. Except for The Artist, these four films are arguably the most broadly critically acclaimed of the Best Picture nominees. And you could probably also make that case for The Artist as well. To me, that doesn't sound like The Master.

Can't believe it's already time to play this game again.

The competition seems fierce this year. Last time out, The Artist/Melancholia/Hugo finished 1-2-3; I'm not sure any of them would make this year's cut. (Though I guess there's always a group to come out for a Melancholia)

HIstorically, we've been given reports on the top three finishers, so I always give myself that much leeway.

Best Film: The Master
ru: Zero Dark Thirty, Lincoln

Best Actor: Joaquin Phoenix (The Master)
ru: Denzel Washington (Flight), Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln)

Best Actress: Emmannuelle Riva (Amour)
ru: Jennifer Lawrence (The Silver Linings Playbook), Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty)

Best. Sup. Actor: Tommy Lee Jones (Lincoln)
ru: Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master), John Goodman (Argo) & (Flight)

Best Sup. Actress: Amy Adams (The Master)
ru: Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty), Helen Hunt (The Sessions)

...the Awards Daily kids are all sure Anne Hathaway has this. I don't doubt she's the Oscar favorite, but she doesn't seem a critics' type. Then again, neither did Jennifer Hudson. (If there's a movie of Cats, are we going to give an auto-Oscar to whoever sings Memory?)

Best Director: Paul Thomas Anderson (The Master)
ru: Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty), Michael Haneke (Amour)

Best Screenplay: The Silver Linings Playbook
ru: Moonrise Kingdom, Lincoln

Best Foreign Language Film: Amour
ru: Holy Motors, The Kid with a Bike

Best Cinematography: Life of Pi
ru: Beasts of the Southern Wild, The Master

Best Animated Feature: Frankenweenie
ru: Wreck-it Ralph, The Secret World of Arietty

Best Non-Fiction Film: This Is Not a Film
ru: How to Survive a Plague, The Central Park Five

Best Debut Film: Beasts of the Southern Wild
ru: Not Fade Away, In the Family

...many people at Awards Daily are putting Arbitrage second. IMDB says Jarecki has a feature documentary to his credit, but the critics waived that for Chris Noonan with Babe back in the day. It's not like anything'll beat Beasts, anyway.
