No one's gonna do the annual contest? Okay. I'll do it.

01. Predict all the Globes' film categories.

02. You're allowed one prediction and an optional runner-up.

03. You'll receive 2 points for each correct prediction and 1 point for the correct runner-up. 3 points if a correct prediction doesn't have a runner-up.

04. Most points wins.

05. I will allow entries and alterations all the way up until Ricky Gervais begins his opening monologue.

My entry:

Best Picture, Drama -
I Predict: The Help, although The Ides of March is the only one I would 100% rule out.
I Want: Moneyball, actually, although I rated Hugo higher. I am nothing if not consistent.

Best Actor, Drama -
I Predict: Brad Pitt, Moneyball, but I think Fassbender and Clooney are both in play.
I Want: Brad Pitt, although I still hold out hope for Fassbender.

Best Actress, Drama -
I Predict: Viola Davis, The Help, and I can't imagine anyone else other than Streep winning here.
I Want: to see the Close, Swinton, and Streep vehicles before I decide.

Best Picture, Musical/Comedy -
I Predict: The Artist
I Want: Midnight in Paris and My Week With Marilyn to lose.

Best Actor, Musical/Comedy -
I Predict: Jean Dujardin, The Artist
I Want: Pending Dujardin, I go with Ryan Gosling, although Steve Carrell and Ewan MacGregor really should be up there.

Best Actress, Musical Comedy -
I Predict: Michelle Williams, My Week With Marilyn
I Want: A nominee worth getting excited about.

Best Supporting Actor -
I Predict: Christopher Plummer, Beginners, although Brooks does seem like one of those choices the Globes make when they're trying to show how down they are with the kids. I just think that Plummer has jumped pretty far out front, and the Globes are going to jump on that bandwagon.
I Want: Plummer by a mile.

Best Supporting Actress -
I Predict: Jessica Chastain, The Help who seems exactly like the kind of young breakthrough actress who the Globes love, although I could see Spencer and Bejo contending as well.
I Want: Chastain.

Best Director -
I Predict: Michael Hazanavicius, The Artist
I Want: Martin Scorsese, although his movie has faded somewhat in my mind.

Best Screenplay -
I Predict: Moneyball, although only The Ides of March would be a surprise.
I Want: Moneyball, I guess, although I don't think that Bennett Miller's direction and the editing--as vital to the success of the film as the screenplay--have quite gotten their due.

Best Score -
I Predict: The Artist
I Want: "Want" isn't the right word, but Hugo.

Best Song -
I Predict: "The Living Proof", The Help, although the Globes have a knack for throwing a real curveball here.
I Want: Chris Cornell because he's the best chance of an interesting speech at the time we'll probably need one.

Best Foreign Film -
I Predict: A Separation because I think it's becoming one of those frontrunners that's hard to deny. I know some people are betting on Jolie's film, but I'm just not seeing the enthusiasm.
I Want: To see A Separation without having to make the drive to Nashville. Come on Hollywood 18! Make it happen!

Best Cartoon -
I Predict: The Adventures of Tintin, although there doesn't seem to be any real enthusiasm for any cartoon this year.
I Want: To see this category retired.

-----
Best Drama Series -
I Predict: American Horror Story, although you never know how the Globes are going to vote in this category.
I Want: To see any of the other four nominees win.

Best Comedy Series -
I Predict: Modern Family, because Glee has lost its heat, and Modern Family hasn't.
I Want: I just can't even fake interest here.

Best Miniseries/Movie -
I Predict: Downton Abbey
I Want: Downton Abbey

Best Actor, Drama -
I Predict: Kelsey Grammer, although a belated win for Cranston or a win for Lewis wouldn't surprise me.
I Want: Lewis, because he's been underrated for awhile.

Best Actress, Drama -
I Predict: Claire Danes, although Stowe and Thorne are both fairly Globesy choices.
I Want: I like Margulies and Danes and Stowe about equally.

Best Actor, Comedy -
I Predict: Matt LeBlanc, although I think any of the nominees could take it.
I Want: Nope. Can't do it.

Best Actress, Comedy -
I Predict: Zooey Deschanel
I Want: Amy Poehler, although I haven't watched her show since season two.

Best Actor, Movie/Miniseries -
I Predict: Hugh Bonneville, although I think anyone could win, especially since William Hurt is the only Emmy nominee here, and there doesn't seem to be any reason to give him another Globe.
I Want: Anyone but Hurt is fine by me.

Best Actress, Movie/Miniseries -
I Predict: Kate Winslet will be too big of a name to ignore.
I Want: Romola Garai, because I've wanted her to break through for several years now, especially as I've watched less talented British actresses like Carey Mulligan do so, although these five actresses are all pretty hard to argue against.

Best Supporting Actor, TV -
I Predict: Peter Dinklage
I Want: Whatever.

Best Supporting Actress, TV -
I Predict: Jessica Lange
I Want: Maggie Smith

Predictions!

Film:
Drama-War Horse
Comedy-The Artist
Animated-The Adventures of Tintin
Director-Hazanavicius
Actor/Drama-Fassbender
Actress/Drama-Streep
Actor/Comedy-Dujardin
Actress/Comedy-Wiig
Supporting Actor-Plummer
Supporting Actress-Chastain
Screenplay-The Descendants
Score-The Artist
Song-Masterpiece
Foreign-A Separation

TV:
Drama-Homeland
Actress/Drama-Danes
Actor/Drama-Lewis
Comedy-New Girl
Actress/Comedy-Deschanel
Actor/Comedy-Galecki
TV Movie/Miniseries-Downton Abbey
Actress/Movie-Winslet
Actor/Movie-Bonneville
Supporting Actress-Lange
Supporting Actor-Dinklage

I know my choices of War Horse and Wiig are a little out there; I've just got a gut feeling on those. I would really love to see Enos win for Actress on a TV Drama. I also feel like the Press may try to double-honor Winslet again. That'd be a good headline, eh?

Best Dramatic Picture - The Descendants
RU - The Help
(My Pick - Moneyball)

Best Comedic/Musical Picture - The Artist
(My Pick - probably Midnight in Paris. Not loving any of them)

Best Actor in a Dramatic Picture - Brad Pitt, Moneyball
RU - George Clooney, The Descendants
(My Pick - Brad Pitt, Moneyball. Yes, there is more Capital-A Acting in Shame, but his character is utterly anonymous to me.)

Best Actor in a Comedic/Musical Picture - Jean Dujardin, The Artist
(My Pick - Ryan Gosling, Crazy, Stupid, Love. Owen Wilson is a good winner too.)

Best Actress in a Dramatic Picture - Meryl Streep, The Iron Lady
(My Pick - Rooney Mara, but I haven't seen We Need to Talk About Kevin.)

Best Actress in a Comedic/Musical Picture - Michelle Williams, My Week with Marilyn
(My Pick - Charlize Theron, Young Adult. Kristen Wiig is a good choice too. Have yet to see Carnage or My Week with Marilyn.)

Best Supporting Actor - Christopher Plummer, Beginners
(My Pick - Christopher Plummer, Beginners)

Best Supporting Actress - Octavia Spencer, The Help
RU - Jessica Chastain, The Help
(My Pick - either Spencer or McTeer are good for me. I'm going with Janet McTeer because her character is the kind of supporting player whose strength of character elevates the entire film.)

Best Director - Michel Hazanavicius, The Artist
(My Pick - I guess Martin Scorsese, but meh!)

Best Screenplay - Woody Allen, Midnight in Paris
RU - Aaron Sorkin and Steve Zaillian, Moneyball
(My Pick - Aaron Sorkin and Steve Zaillian, Moneyball)

Best Original Score - Ludovic Bource, The Artist
(My Pick - Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo)

Best Original Song - I have no idea. They clearly like W.E. on some level, so I guess Madonna will win. "Masterpiece", W.E.
RU - "Lay Your Head Down", Albert Nobbs
(My Pick - eh. Pass.)

Best Animated Film - Rango
RU - The Adventures of Tintin
(My Pick - only seen Rango)

Best Foreign-Language Film - In the Land of Blood and Honey
RU - A Separation
(My Pick - A Separation)
