So Fincher gets the "out of nowhere award" I predicted for Alfredson. Oh, well, at least they have three things in common: they directed a thriller based on a best-selling novel that was previously filmed.

It seems that a lot of us were pretty sure Woody was making this list...in fact, I had him on my predictions ahead of Martin Scorsese. His film is a pretty strong contender these days.

I'm really not sure what to make of this. Until now, it seemed like Dragon Tattoo was fading and Woody wasn't exectly expected. The other three were a given.

But I wonder how much the Academy will take this as being an atypical year or whether they'll think their many changes in the last few years led to this. I hope they don't think the latter, because they need to revert Best Picture to 5.
