Darn. I meant to include Beginners and 50/50 in the top ten independants. They'll likely show up before Carnage and Margin call but I don;t want to change my prediciotns a couple of hours before the actual announcement.

Time to Play NBR

No one takes them seriously, but they're as amusing to try and forecast as any other group.

I've heard the same as Magilla, that their ranks have been swelled of late by people who actually know something about film, so the days of salaaming to every Merchant-Ivory knockoff are probably gone. But the Eastwood love remains -- at least it did enough in the last two years to put Invictus and Hereafter in their top ten.

Remember, they now pick a best film plus ten others.

My predictions:

Best Film: The Descendants
(alt.: The Artist)

The Next Ten:

The Artist
Beginners
Contagion
The Help
Hugo
J. Edgar
Midnight in Paris
Moneyball
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

alt.: Kenneth Branagh (My Week with Marilyn)

Best Supporting Actress: Vanessa Redgrave (Coriolanus)
alt.: Jessica Chastain (The Help), (Take Shelter) & (Tree of Life)

Best Director: Woody Allen (Midnight in Paris)
alt.: Martin Scorsese (Hugo)

Best Adapted Screenplay: The Descendants
alt. Moneyball

Best Original Screenplay: Midnight in Paris
alt.: Young Adult

Best Foreign Film: A Separation
alt.: In the Land of Blood and Honey

Best Animated Film: The Adventures of TinTin
alt.: Rango

Best Documentary: Tabloid
