Ecstatic about Dunst's win. She's one of the few actresses who has a somewhat distinctive screen presence in this era but whose talent is too often dismissed (I think Scarlett Johansson, when used well, also fits this), so I hope that this, at least, brings her some sort of street cred or leads to more highbrow projects.

I put Le Havre down for the Grand Prix. I didn't expect it to be shut out entirely, but it's not the kind of film that wins at Cannes. Pleasant films don't really win.

Indeed great to have the board back.

So, apparently Cannes is unlike Hollywood: the rumors are never true. The most widely circulated intelligence over the last few days was that everyone loved Le Havre, and there was only one person on the entire jury who backed Tree of Life.

Drive is certainly the sleeper of the pack: a commercial-ish project now with highbrow credentials.

Dws, your updates were faster than Awards Daily's. Thanks.

Have the Dardennes ever submitted a film to Cannes that hasn't won an award?

Also, nice to see the board back up. And just in time, too.

Took forever, but I found a live stream. Had to set my computer time ahead seven hours to get it to come up.

Camera D'Or: Las Acacias
Jury Prize: Polisse (The director went on and on.)
Screenplay: Footnote
Actress: Kirsten Dunst, Melancholia (Unless the lady yammering translations caused me to miss it, she did not mention Lars Von Trier)
Director: Nicolas Wending Refn, Drive (He went on and on too)
Actor: Jean Dujardin, The Artist
Grand Prize: The Kid With a Bike and Once Upon a Time In Anatolia
Palme D'Or: The Tree of Life (Malick's a no-show)

That's fairly close to what I have.

I've got Le Havre for the Palme, Drive and The Artist getting some combination of the Grand Prize/Jury Prize, and Tree of Life getting Director. My screenplay and acting picks are the same as yours. (Although I could see Actor going to the ensemble of Footnote, leaving screenplay for Once Upon a Time in Anatolia.)

Well, before we lose the Board again, here are my predictions for the Palme...

Palme d'Or - The Tree of Life (i know, i know...probably not. My top three contenders for the Palme are Le Havre, The Tree of Life, and Melancholia, and I can see all three of them basically winning only the Palme or the Grand Prix.)
Grand Prix - Le Havre
Jury Prize - The Artist
Best Actor - Thomas Dorset, The Kid with a Bike
Best Actress - Tilda Swinton, We Need to Talk About Kevin
Best Director - Nicholas Winding Refl, Drive
Best Screenplay - Footnote
