You mean, other than Avatar?
Hugo used 3-D more inventively and artistically than Avatar.

That said, I would've preferred a Lubezki win myself but I'm not mad at this win at all.

Don't give up hope just yet.
Nothing would make me happier than a Malick win, but if the Academy could not award THE TREE OF LIFE for its brilliant cinematography there is no way they will give it a big prize like Director.

How can you forget the AVATAR debacle?

Big surprise. I suspected that The Tree of Life could be upset. But it was such a favorite. I guess folks couldn't sit through it.

I did like Hugo best though.

I like Hugo, but this is an embarrassing win. Of Richardson's three Oscars, JFK was the only one he deserved as much as a nomination for.

When Lubezki eventually wins, it is going to be for something pedestrian like Rousselot winning for A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT.

Not expecting that one, though it is a deserved award. Richardson did his usual beautiful work that contributed to the story. Wonder if we will have some surprises for other awards.
