Actually Postlewaite's nomination knocks out Bob Hoskins in Made in Dagenham, which placed in the top five on the long list.

The only other divergence from the long list in the major categories is Best Actress, where Rapace and Steinfeld knocked out Cary Mulligan in Never Let Me Go along with Michelle Williams in Blue Valentine.

All five Best Actor, Supporting Actress and Director nominees placed in the top five on the long list.

Nice to see a grouping that doesn't just read like someone's dreary set of predictions.

The inclusion of Manville, Hershey and Julianne Moore makes it feel like the group went into isolation before the Crucial Precursor Stage, and voted for the names being bandied about in mid-December.

So, they liked everything about True Grit but the directing, and everything about 127 Hours but the picture.

The best actress divergence-from-template is most striking. Could Eric have been right about the Rapace possibility? Is Stenifeld-as-lead really gaining credence?

Postlewthaite is pure sentiment, but since he knocks out a performance that didn't much impress me (Renner's), no big deal.

It may be wishful, but I'm thinking there's substantial room for surprise around the edges when the nominations that truly matter come out next Tuesday.

Biggest surprise for me was Pete Postlethwaite's posthumous nomination for The Town. I had been thinking he could be a surprise Oscar nominee over Jeremy Renner at the Oscars, but now that the BAFTAs have beaten them to it, it won't be that much of a surprise if it does happen.

I couldn't find the longlists because they aren't in the forum they should be in, so I couldn't double check.

But that does support some of what we've been discussing that neither Michelle Williams nor Nicole Kidman are locks for nominations and an appearance by Steinfeld would not be surprising.

They were both eligible, and both had several mentions on the longlists released a couple of weeks ago. Michelle Williams was actually in the initial top five as voted by the actors' branch.

I wouldn't doubt that Rabbit Hole and Blue Valentine failed to open in Britain in time, which would explain their ineligibility.

Bardem, Manville and Moore made the list. Gosling, Williams, Kidman and Leo missed out.

Don't know why Rapace is getting a mention. She was not that great......the character stood out more on paper but didn't translate onto film with as much power.

True Grit gets 8 mentions, including Steinfeld in the lead, but missed out a director's slot for the Coens.

Apart from them the usual obvious Brit suspects are on board.
