Updated my predictions.

The King's Speech and The Social Network lead with seven, then 127 Hours, The Fighter, Inception, The Kids Are All Right, and True Grit with four, and then How Do You Know, Love and Other Drugs, and The Town with three.

BEST PICTURE - DRAMA

Inception
The King's Speech
The Social Network
The Town
True Grit

[Don't know if I should go on a limb and say 127 Hours misses here, but it could happen.]

BEST PICTURE - COMEDY/MUSICAL

Greenberg
How Do You Know?
The Kids Are All Right
Love and Other Drugs
Morning Glory

BEST ACTOR - DRAMA

Jeff Bridges, True Grit
Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network
Colin Firth, The King's Speech
James Franco, 127 Hours
Mark Wahlberg, The Fighter

BEST ACTRESS - DRAMA

Nicole Kidman, Rabbit Hole
Diane Lane, Secretariat
Jennifer Lawrence, Winter's Bone
Chloe Grace Moretz, Let Me In
Natalie Portman, Black Swan

[If not Moertz, maybe Gwyneth Paltrow or Noomi Rapace.]

BEST ACTRESS - COMEDY/MUSICAL

Annette Bening, The Kids Are All Right
Anne Hathaway, Love and Other Drugs
Rachel McAdams, Morning Glory
Julianne Moore, The Kids Are All Right
Reese Witherspoon, How Do You Know?

BEST ACTOR - COMEDY/MUSICAL

Jim Carrey, I Love You, Phillip Morris
Tom Cruise, Knight & Day
Harrison Ford, Morning Glory
Jake Gyllenhaal, Love and Other Drugs
Ben Stiller, Greenberg

[Tempted to put John C. Reilly here, but Greenberg and Cyrus -two small comedies competing here - just seems unlikely; Carrey might get in just for taking a chance on an unusual role)]

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR

Christian Bale, The Fighter
Andrew Garfield, The Social Network
Jack Nicholson, How Do You KNow?
Jeremy Renner, The Town
Mark Ruffalo, The Kids Are All Right
Geoffrey Rush, The King's Speech

[If they really wanted to throw out a surprise, they could nominate Ewan McGregor along with Carrey. I'm pretty certain they won't.]

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS

Helena Bonham Carter, The King's Speech)
Marion Cotillard, Inception
Diane Keaton, Morning Glory
Chloe Grace Moretz, Kick-Ass
Dianne Wiest, Rabbit Hole

[Ok, Moretz is wishful thinking. It might be Kristin Scott Thomas, Amy Adams or Melissa Leo instead of her or Cotillard (or both)]

BEST DIRECTOR

Ben Affleck (The Town)
Danny Boyle (127 Hours)
James L. Brooks (How Do You Know?)
David Fincher (The Social Network)
Tom Hooper (The King's Speech)
Christopher Nolan (Inception)

BEST SCORE

Black Swan
How to Train Your Dragon
The King's Speech
Secretariat
Toy Story 3

BEST SONG

"Country Strong," Country Strong
"I See the Light," Tangled
"If I Rise," 127 Hours
"We Belong Together," Toy Story 3
"You Haven't Seen the Last of Me," Burlesque

[Maybe I'm mis-remembering, but I seem to recall reading that Country Strong contained an original title tune. Am I wrong about that?]

BEST ANIMATED FILM

How to Train Your Dragon
Tangled
Toy Story 3

Stearing clear of Foreign Film.

If the HFPA goes for How Do You Know? for actress, actor AND picture, wouldn't they also nominate Jack Nicholson? Afterall, how many more chances will they get?

For the past three years, I think a PIXAR movie has stood a better chance of winning the Comedic or Musical Golden Globe than any nominated film.

WALL-E > Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Up > The Hangover
Toy Story 3 > really, anything.

Mark Ruffalo could very easily get nominated for Best Supporting Actor. I just figured they might just overlook him for other erstwhile competitors. Actually, he could get in over Aaron Eckhart. But Timberlake makes sense to me. There is a substantial PR-campaign to be made on Michael Douglas's behalf for either one of his movies this year, Solitary Man or Wall Street 2.

I don't think they will. If the rules for the animated category are the same as the foreign film one then Toy Story 3 will not be eligible for the Comedy/Musical Picture nomination.

I would think Mark Ruffalo would have a better shot a supporting actor nod here than Michael Douglas who may get sympathy votes for his lead performance in Solitary Man, but I wouldn't think the mega-flop sequel to Wall Street will elicit anything for anyone.

I'm sure Love & Other Drugs will end up as a comedy for as much as it isn't a comedy, neither was Driving Miss Daisy, but that didn't stop them putting it in Comedy/Musical.

True, but the "star-fucking" candidates don't supplant their better received co-stars, especially in the supporting categories (see Cameron Diaz and Catherine Keener for Being John Malkovich; Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr. for Tropic Thunder, etc.)

And where's Mark Ruffalo?

I'm making an early prediction that Melissa Leo starts racking up critics awards for The Fighter.
