I have to say that Carey Mulligan's performance in Never Let Me Go is some extremely affecting work. In a lesser year, I would've expected it to breakthrough to a larger swath of accolades. She is such a thoughtful, committed actress. There's something incredibly humane in the way she's portrayed on screen.

And Guy Pearce gets in on the list as well for The King's Speech.

The major precursors, which start coming in next week, could settle the issue with regard to Manville.

I still find it amusing that Guy Pearce (43) is playing the "older" brother of Colin Firth (50). It conjures up memories of Eileen Herlie (30) playing the mother of Laurence Olivier (41) in Hamlet and Angela Lansbury (24) playing the older sister of Hedy Lamarr (35) in Samson and Delilah.
