Lora Hirschberg is also the first woman to win in this category beating 10-time Oscar nominee but still Oscarless Anna Behlmer to the punch in only two nominations.

That leaves only Best Cinematography and Best Animated Feature as the two non-acting categories without a female winner.

Best Animated Feature has a legitimate excuse of being a relatively new category and it did have one female nominee in Marjane Satrapi for Persepolis but in a category that's been around for 83 years, Best Cinematography has never even had a female nominee yet.
