I've listened to the five nominated songs at the Golden Globes, and yeesh! I really don't know if I liked "I See the Light" or "There's a Place for Us" worse for how generic they are, or "Country Strong" because it sounds like every country song I've ever heard, or "Bound to You" or "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me" from Burlesque because they're...from Burlesque. The latter two songs aren't really my bag, but they're clearly have clearly superior lyrics and musical arrangements to them, but I really hope we get something a little more tolerable at the Oscars. If not, I think Adam Shankman had the right idea to just skip over the musical performances.

Delighted to see Life During Wartime makes the cut. Obviously my advocacy when I talked about the film made the difference.

(Seriously, it's a real long shot -- would be the ugliest movie to yield a best song nominee since More emerged from Mondo Cane -- but it is part-written by Oscar favorire Marc Shaiman. It could end up being the Kiss at the End of the Rainbow of this season)
