I have not seen All About Steve, G.I. Joe Rise of the Cobra, Land of the Lost, or Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and I forgot that Jonas Brothers: The 3-D Concert and Hannah Montana: The Movie existed.

I like it when people accept their Razzies. It shows they're good sports and can take criticism and acknowledge their faults/mistakes/missteps.

While I'm certain All About Steve was beyond terrible and Sandra Bullock in it also quite objectionable...the choices outside her are so lazy that I highly doubt this has any merit apart from trying to make the exact wave that Precious stated in his opening line in the reply right below mine.

Paris Hilton as worst actress of the decade makes the entire decade irrelevant as evaluating bad art...if that's even what they intend to do any longer (or ever)

Will Sandra Bullock be the first actor to win a Razzie and Oscar in the same year? We will find out in less then 24 hours.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Sandra Bullock has earned a few honours in Hollywood, "America's Sweetheart" among them, and on Saturday she was crowned with the dubious title of worst actress of 2009, one day before she's favoured to win an Oscar.

Bullock, whose drama "The Blind Side" has made her the odds-on favourite to claim the best actress Oscar, was given a Razzie Award for worst female performance in "All About Steve". No performer has ever won a Razzie and an Oscar the same year.

The actress played a socially awkward designer of newspaper crosswords, who falls in love with a cameraman (Bradley Cooper) and stalks him in the movie.

Organizers of the Razzies, an annual event that began in 1980 to spoof the glitzy Oscars, which take place on Sunday, also named Bullock and Cooper the worst screen couple of 2009.

Hollywood stars are rare sightings at the Razzies, but in 2005 Halle Berry sportingly claimed her award for "Catwoman," and brought along the Oscar she had previously won for her role in "Monster's Ball".

The Razzies this year also turned their inside Hollywood sarcasm on one of the biggest box office hits of 2009, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen". The critically panned blockbuster was named worst film, and organizers bestowed a second trophy of shame upon its director Michael Bay.

Special awards were given for the past decade. The 2000 film "Battlefield Earth", based on the writings of Scientology creator L. Ron Hubbard, was named worst picture of the decade.

Comedian Eddie Murphy, who has had several box office duds in recent years, and Paris Hilton were named the worst actor and actress of the 2000s, respectively.

The so-called "winners" were determined by mailing ballots to 657 voters in the United States and 19 foreign countries.

Following is a list of 2009 Razzie winners:

Worst picture: "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen"

Worst actor: The Jonas Brothers ("Jonas Brothers: The 3-D Concert Experience")

Worst actress: Sandra Bullock ("All About Steve")

Worst supporting actor: Billy Ray Cyrus ("Hannah Montana: The Movie")

Worst supporting actress: Sienna Miller ("G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra")

Worst screen couple: Sandra Bullock and Bradley Cooper ("All About Steve")

Worst screenplay: "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen"

Worst director: Michael Bay ("Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen")

Worst remake/rip-off or sequel: "Land of the Lost"

Well, I would hope to ensure that people would learn from their mistakes so that we never have to see another Battlefield Earth or Gigli again.

And if you're seriously complaining that Nine was shafted over Transformers 2, GI Joe, All About Steve, Old Dogs and Land of the Lost, all I have to say is have you seen at least three or four of these?
Why in the world would I waste time seeing Transformers 2, GI Joe, All About Steve or Old Dogs? (Why would ANYONE?)

But if you're going to chide films for being lousy you should go after the pretentious, insufferabke ones that come cloak in "orestige" and "quality" not things that are clearly crap from the time the first page of the first draft was typed.
I have. I usually categorize anything by Terrence Malick or Woody Allen in that latter bunch that you described. Don't care what anyone says, but I had The New World down as one of my worst movies of 2005 because of the exact reason that you mentioned.

I'm saying that there's a tendancy to bash some movies that are really good simply because they're not on the aristocratic level that some people seem to adhere to, which leaves them incapable of appreciating just how much of a blessing having movies like The Dark Knight, Lord of the Rings or Avatar. We could be cursed having every major movie come out be exactly like GI Joe, Transformers 2, All About Steve, Land of the Lost, and others like them.

I personally feel that it's more challenging for a filmmaker to remain true to an artistic vision while making a larger budget commercial film than it is for an independent filmmaker because there are less people trying to buearucratically conform it into a test market friendly product. We've seen it done so many times before where studios and their directors care so little about the quality of the film they've spent hundreds of millions of dollars on because they have to get their video games, toys, sponsers, etc. satisfied that they forgot to make a good movie that people wanted to see in the process. Now, there's become a new trend, of which Transformers 2 is the embodiement of, and that is creating a crappy product for a franchise with the sole purpose of simply putting asses in theater chairs on that opening weekend. It's even gotten to the point that major releases, like GI Joe, will refuse to screen their movies for critics because they know how bad it is and don't want audiences "tainted" by the negative reviews (like the target audience of GI Joe would waste their time reading a newspaper).

Then again, there are some indie films that are packaged so much like a test market friendly product when the test market is aimmed at pretentious art house films, such as The Royal Tenenbaums or Waking Life. That is why I'm not so quick to jump on to every band wagon of the highly reviewed films unless I actually see the movie first (which is why I haven't given ratings to the movies I haven't seen that Oscar Guy is currently taking a poll on). These are movies that have the same result I mentioned with studio films in that the filmmaker doesn't really care about his audience. Except in these cases, these movies were awful simply because the filmmaker only cared about his vision and not about the audience. Again, audiences are left in the cold and it's apparent the filmmaker didn't care.

So, yes, while there are plenty of awful pretentious movies out there that disguise themselves as being more artful than most (one last time, Curious Case of Benjamin Button, I'm looking at you), like Huey Lewis said, sometimes bad is bad, no matter what movies we watch. Whether we try to show our that we have a refined palette by rejecting movies that are otherwise universally loved by critics and art houses or show that we aren't sheep by not giving into the hype of every mega budget blockbuster that's released. A movie should be reviewed on it's overall intention and execution, not what we think it (and for that matter every movie) should be. So, every once in a while, it's a good thing to take in a bad movie, if only because it helps us to appreciate the good ones when they come along. That being said, how many people on this board can say that they've seen Transformers 2, Battlefield Earth, Crossroads, Glitter, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), Van Helsing, Alone in the Dark, White Chicks, The Wicker Man, BloodRayne, Ultraviolet, I Know Who Killed Me and The Love Guru? If you've seen all of these, then you know the true depths of the depravity that Hollywood can stoop too and wouldn't be so quick to dismiss a big budget film that puts an effort into attempting to be a good movie.

Michael Bay has never won a Razzie. He's due.

He's kinda like the Martin Scorsese of the Razzies.

Yeah, I don't get it. Christian Bale was such a tiresome presence in Terminator: Salvation and Public Enemies this year, but instead they nominate The Jonas Brothers and Eddie Murphy yet again. Malin Ackerman is a good actress who was so obnoxious in Watchmen and (the ten minutes I saw, before walking out, of) Couples Retreat. What about The Ugly Truth?

Okay, but I'm still not buying it. A sweep by Transformers 2 is not going to send any message to Hollywood. It made money so a few Razzies voted on by a bunch of nerds is not going to change anything for them. At the end of the day, their investment was still rewarded.

Because some movies, while obvious targets, still merit all of their disreputability. That being said, I'm standing firm behind a Transformers 2 sweep, if only to send a message to Hollywood about over-produced, under-developed films that squeak out profits due to an easily dupable fanbase. That and Michael Bay still hasn't won a Worst Director yet, so he's long overdue. Inversely, Bay in the Razzies is like what Scorcese used to be to the Oscars before The Departed. Let's hope he gets his overdue dis-honor with this horrible and unforgivable pathetic excuse for a movie.

These are so tiresome. Why do they even bother? All they do is go after the easiest, most obvious targets.
