‘Adam & Paul’ & ‘Hunger’ are Irish Films of the Decade for Dublin Critics

Adam & Paul
Lenny Abrahamson's ‘Adam & Paul’ and Steve McQueen’s ‘Hunger’ have been named as the joint best Irish films of the decade as a result of an annual vote orchestrated by the Dublin Film Critics Circle.

The vote also saw Joel Conroy’s documentary ‘Waveriders’ receiving the title of Best Irish Film of the year and Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘There Will Be Blood’ scooped the prize in the category of Best Film of the Outgoing Decade. Four of the ten finalist Irish films such as 'Adam and Paul', 'Garage' and 'Omagh' were produced by Element Pictures, the company behind the distribution of the top two films of the year, as voted by the Irish critis - 'Waveriders' and 'The Yellow Bittern: The Life and Times of Liam Clancy'.

On an international level the Swedish vampire film, ‘Let the Right One In’ claimed the title of Best Film of 2009. The 2009 best actor and actress nods went to Sean Penn and Yolande Moreau for their work on ‘Milk’ and ‘Séraphine’ respectively.

Established in 2006, The Dublin Film Critics Circle looks to offer the city's professional movie reviewers an opportunity to pool opinions on the Irish and international film industry. The list of eligible voters this year included Tara Brady, Declan Burke, Gavin Burke, George Byrne, Paul Byrne, Ciaran Carty, Donald Clarke, Michael Dwyer, Joe Griffin, Gordon Hayden, Aoife Kelly, Taragh Loughrey Grant, Paul Lynch, John Maguire, Philip Molloy, Esther McCarthy, David O'Mahony, Mike Sheridan and Paul Whitington.
