I think if there were only five nominees there would be less consensus.

The Lovely Bones is still a question mark for me, and Nine may turn out to be less than we expect. Invictus looks solid enough to score major nominations even if it turns out to be no more than an "inspiring" combination of Chariots of Fire and Gandhi.

We shall see what we shall see.

One thought I've had about Best Picture since reading these lists (as well as others across the web): about EIGHT movies seem to be showing up on EVERYONE'S lists. An Education, The Hurt Locker, Invictus, The Lovely Bones, Nine, Precious, Up, and Up in the Air.

Now, of course I'm not saying that these movies are all set for nominations. Some probably aren't -- we won't know for a couple months. But isn't it kind of odd that there seems to be so much consensus prediction-wise so early on? In past years, there has been a lot more disagreement over the contenders.

Hopefully this doesn't portend a predictable season...

Supporting actor is suddenly top heavy with big names. The heretofore unknown Waltz will probably make it, but I'm hard pressed to say which veteran performer won't - Baldwin, Bridges, Molina? I couldn't decide.

I think Christoph Waltz in Inglourious Basterds is practically a lock at this point, along with Mo'Nique. It's one of the most talked-about performances of the year.

What makes you think he isn't going to make the cut?

Plummer is being campaigned for support in The Last Station, James McAvoy and Helen Mirren in lead.

Shoreh Aghdashloo was an early favorite in some circles but her film came and went without much notice.

I don't believe Mother and Child has a release date.

I thought I had read somewhere he was being pushed for supporting, which is why I had him there. It certainly seems likely, as that is where most older actors career nods come in.

Surely Christopher Plummer is a lead in The Last Station?

I don't know that it's going to make it to the final race, but has anyone considered Shohreh Aghdashloo in The Stoning of Soraya M? It's a good performance, but I don't know if she can compete, though her Emmy win might help.
