GoldDerby made an error in that report. An Education is being pushed for Drama.

However, Melanie Laurent is gonna run in the LEAD categories from here on out.

Since the thread titles says "Announcements" (plural), I guess it's a good spot for whatever news pops up. To wit:

(INSTANT EDIT: I was just over at O'Neils's site, and he says the report about An Education was wrong, that it'll compete under Drama. Which should relieve the award Daily-ites enormously)

According to Awards Daily, An Education and A Serious Man are both being classified under Comedy/Musical.

For amusement, you should check out the comment thread there, as people pontificate that 1) Mulligan now can't win the Oscar, because she'll lose to Streep here (logic that escapes me) and 2) An Education doesn't belong in the category because nothing about the movie is funny. (Which should come as nasty news to Alfred Molina and Emma Thompson, among others)

The award will be presented to Scorsese at the 67th annual Globes on Jan. 17.

Scorsese turns 67 next week and is an Academy Award winner for directing on The Departed and a two-time Golden Globe winner for that film and Gangs of New York. He also was nominated for Oscars and Globes for such films as Raging Bull,Goodfellas and The Aviator.

Past winners of the DeMille award include last year's recipient, Steven Spielberg, along with Warren Beatty, Anthony Hopkins and Michael Douglas.
