In Kiarostami's case, working backwards is probably NOT the best strategy, certainly not if accessibility is a factor. Better to start with Where Is the Friends Home or even one of the earlier child-centric films like the Wedding Suit.

I think he was even better in Cassandra´s Dream.

I've heard that Woman on the Beach is very accessible so I might start there and work backwards. I've heard astonishing things about Turning Gate. I'm in it for at least three. That's what I gave to Abbas Kiarostami before I gave up.

Woman on the Beach is a fine place to start, but if it underwhelms I'd give Virgin Stripped Bare By Her Bachelors or Turning Gate a try before giving up on Hong.

I love all three. (and Power of Kangwon Province and to a lesser extent Woman is the Future of Man). Can't wait for Night and Day to screen near me.

They really like Robert Downey Jr. A top five for Iron Man? For basically giving the exact same performance he's been giving for the last decade? Bardem for taking a one note role and making it ... one note?

After seeing this performance last week, I can partially take back what I said about Fiennes in another thread. His work in In Bruges was a great comic performance. Still not crazy about all of his brooding European performances of late, but he was priceless in this.

Glad to see Russell Brand place tenth for Forgetting Sarah Marshall, playing the only character in the film who I would've been happy to watch an entire movie about. I've liked Jason Segel on Freaks and Geeks and Kristen Bell on Veronica Mars, and was looking forward to that movie because of them, but they've both been awful in everything else I've seen them in. Brand, who I had never heard of before, was the only reason to watch it.

I always enjoy these. They began in 1995 with Mike D'Angelo heading the internet survey and they've continued in making eclectic choices and forgoing Oscar-mongering. Usually.

Previous winners:
2007 - There Will Be Blood (r.u. - No Country for Old Men)
2006 - The Departed (r.u. - The Prestige)
2005 - Grizzly Man (r.u. - The New World)
2004 - Dogville (r.u. - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind)
2003 - Irreversible (r.u. - Kill Bill: Vol. 1)
2002 - 25th Hour (r.u. - Y Tu Mama Tambien)
