I can imagine many people giving her their 4th or 5th placements in their ballots, but i don't think many will place her as their 1st or 2nd preference. With the Academy voting method this will work against her. She was in a similar situation with 'A Mighty Heart' and was nominated for almost every precursor, but in the end she failed to be nominated for the Oscar.

If Jolie does lose out on a nomination again (even though I think she deserves a spot this year, even if it's the fourth or fifth spot), I hope she does so to Cate Blanchett just like last year. Blanchett's performance in Benjamin Button is surely one of the most underrated of the year.
If push comes to shove I would easily choose Blanchett as a nominee over Jolie. Anytime.

Here's a difference. Jolie didn't get a BAFTA nod for A Mighty Heart. Yet, here she is for Changeling, a film which also managed a nod for Clint Eastwood as Best Director. As Magilla can attest, in my Nominations Morning article, I bring up that possibility.

What the fuck did Frieda Pinto do that's anywhere near award worthy? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. And lets put Slumdog Millionaire in perspective. It's a British film. Its heavy showing in unexecpted categories (like Supporting Actress) may have more to do with love of Danny Boyle and British films than anything. Brendan Gleeson is a nominee in Supporting Actor where none of us were predicting before. Tilda Swinton's in for Burn After Reading. And, let's also not forget that Dev Patel is actually a Brit as well. So, when looking at the British Academy list, the grain of salt one should always take is that anything British may have been overemphasized.

And look. It's Brad Pitt as a Best Actor nominee for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button...how "unusual"

Is the voting system of the BAFTAs similar to the one of the Academy Awards, or does every top5 placement gets points?

Shame they couldn't find room for Ralph Fiennes, although with three roles on the longlist there must have been a fair amount of people voting for him.

Actually since i liked but didn't love neither 'The Dark Knight' nor 'Wall-e', this is one of the best line-ups i've seen all year.

Very strong support for 'Slumdog Millionaire'. The nods of Patel and Pinto indicate that this is the film to beat. The worst nomination must be the Best Music Score nod for 'Mamma Mia" (i think they did the same with 'Dreamgirls'). Also very strong support for 'The Changeling' and 'The Reader'. It's a pity that Michael Sheen wasn't nominated here, since this was his only chance of recognition.

Not a particularly impressive line-up. No Sally Hawkins is a shock which I don't particularly care about, but no Michael Fassbender is unforgivable.

My favourite thing about this list is Persepolis nominated for both animated film and foreign language film.

Quick count gives 11 nominations to Slumdog Millionaire and Benjamin Button, nine to The Dark Knight (but all tech apart from Ledger).
