Very poor showings for Happy-Go-Lucky and Hunger, both of which I felt sure would score big here.

I'm going on record and predicting Julie Walters will not only be shortlisted but go on to win Best Supporting Actress (they're going to reward the UK's most popular film ever somewhere).

Important to note that both Dev Patel and Kate Winslet have been shortlisted for Supporting-pushed performances in Lead.

Gran Torino's absence may be release-date oriented.

14 Curious Case of Benjamin Button
14 Frost/Nixon
13 Slumdog Millionaire
13 The Reader
13 Revolutionary Road
13 The Dark Knight
13 The Changeling
11 Milk
11 Burn After Reading

Not that these say something, but they give us some indication. From the Oscar contenders Taraji P. Henson is missing from these lists despite Button's 14 'noms'. Michael Shannon, James Franco, Rosemary DeWitt and Melissa Leo (if her film was eligible) are missing. Clint, the actor, is also not her but i am not sure if Gran Torino was eligible.

Oh and 'Mamma Mia!' is up for 9 nods (not for Picture or Director though) including ala BAFTAs (like they did with Dreamgirls) for Best Music Score. lol
