Heath Ledger couldn't feel his face when he was acting? Yep, it was the role.

The scarring on his face allegedly used a brand new kind of latex make-up that is extremely flexible, and which the actor can't feel on his/her face.

I have to agree with that. PSH's decline as Caden Cotard was realistically mirrored in his makeup. And Samantha Morton morphed from a twenty-something receptionist to a senior citizen so effortlessly, it was like watching time-lapse photography.

Jennifer Jason Leigh looked like an old French by the end of the film.

That's only the Davy Jones makeup and doesn't count everybody else's. I don't know how much of Davy Jones' makeup was digitally manipulated for the purpose of movement but I can only imagine a substantial amount, while ALL of Nicole Kidman's makeup was manipulated on her nose in 'The Hours'.

It could happen. Even though the first 'Hellboy' somehow managed to escape nomination in 2004, I think Guillermo Del Toro's movies are going to be a mainstay from now on. 'Synecdoche, New York' brilliantly aged its cast. I haven't seen 'Narnia' but there's no reason to believe it won't happen.

Can somebody tell me the extent to which Heath Ledger was made up past smudged face paint?

They did, however, list Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest as a finalist and gave At World's End a nomination, despite all the CGI manipulation. They also gave Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith a nomination as well.

Wouldn't the sheer amount of computer manipulation of people's faces, etc rule out the Fincher film? I mean, The Hours was ruled out because there was some CGI work done on Kidman's nose.
