In terms of age, I'm closer to Wes Bentley's washed-up DJ than the younger guys (Efron's character is around 23) here, but its portrayal of that mid-20's conflict over what you want to do vs. what you're "supposed" to do hasn't been portrayed this well in quite awhile. The use of music is just great as well--so few movies blend music and image as well as this one does. I hope this becomes a cult video (or Netflix) hit in the next few years, because I sure think it deserves to.

Don't know if that made much of a case for it, and I wouldn't be shocked if no one here even liked it at all. But it was one of those movies that made me determined to keep seeking out some unheralded films every year, and even some outright "failures".

And for what it's worth, Wes Bentley was a near miss for my Supporting Actor lineup as well.
I haven't seen We Are Your Friends but it sounds vaguely like the 2014 Mia Hansen-Løve film titled Eden which was good but a lesser work of the director.

Having now seen almost all of the nominees in the major categories I'll post my first selections of the best of 2015. I apologise. I twice tried to edit my post but it screwed up so I deleted the content and posted a period :)

I had some trouble with Mistress America. The upstairs/downstairs farce angle felt labored and unsuccessful but props for trying on Baumbach's part. I felt pretty wearied of Gerwig's schtick, but Lola Kirke and Matthew Shear were real finds. I might prefer While We're Young as a whole but I liked the parts of Mistress America more. Matthew Shear is going to have a wonderful career.

What conversation just happened below between Reza, OscarGuy, and mlrg?
