No Oscar for Kate Beckinsale?

I just caught this on dvd (kind of twice) and it is a very interesting film. It could spark hours of debate about journalistic integrity on national security ramifications and vice versa, amongst many other factors.

The Beckinsale character is definitely written as what is supposed to be viewed as an awards whore. She is solid...though all I wanted was more Farmiga, whom I may have thrown a vote at for supporting actress.

Alan Alda plays Alan Alda...and serves to mostly bring you onto the Beckinsale team, but shines in front of the supreme court.

This film had several stars in it, the kind of film where non-entities were played by actors I recognized. It was sort of a who's who of long-running NBC television programs...(Wyle, Schwimmer, Vance, Sheridan, to a lesser extent Bassett).

It's funny when you don't like a particular actress but you still find some timeout to do research on her or even care what she says in her interviews.

I love the fact that Kate Beckinsale checks into hotels under the name "Sigourney Beaver".

Didn't she already play Ava Gardner in The Aviator?

Speaking of Kate B, I heard Martin S is making a Frank S biopic. Well, let's hope he enlists Kate B again as Ava G. Kate looks so perfect & beautiful as Ava!

No, U go to hell!

And nope, I haven't exploded yet (STILL not my style).

I'm just... saying it "nicely" 'cause U asked for it.

Thank you.

End of discussion.

The ending was sweet.

Beckinsale's performance was sweeter.

Her Oscar WIN (YES!) in the future will be the sweetest.

And nope, I haven't exploded yet (not my style) and am still in 1 whole piece (unlike Gabourey Sidibe in the "Precious" poster).

So, DEAL WITH IT ya'll.

Thank you.

End of speech.

Interesting reading in retrospect. The Broadcast Critics were only ones to fall for the hype.

I just watched this on DVD. It's better than I expected coming from Rod Laurie (The Contender) and both Kate Beckinsale and Vera Farmiga are good, as is Alan Alda as Beckinsale's Civil Rights attorney but the acting compettion was just too strong for anyone in this film to be a serious contender regardless of how many people actually saw the film.

It's worth a look. While the film wears an obvious heart on its sleeve in favor of journalistic integrity, it's not completely one-sided. No matter your political views you will be genuinely stunned by the film's ending. I almost always figure out whodunit before the big reveal but I didn't see this one coming at all.

Eric's right, this could be the Oscar campaign and could actually generate sympathy if enough people hear about it. Remember Edward Norton's shocking nomination for American History X? The same could happen here if she and the Yari Group can mount a grass roots campaign.

When I saw this topic I got confused. Why is there a question mark at the end of it?

Thanks Flipp, hopefully what all of us were thinking

I think Van Helsing may have literally exploded from this news...as we're lacking a blood boiling reply here

Was she ever really a serious contender? I mean, really.

This may be the Oscar campaign, people.
