Ugh! Fuck this movie IMMEDIATELY!

'Watchmen' had the makings of one of the great mini-series but this movie will be a disaster.

The comic book is great, but this film won't be. For long I thought this would be unfilmable, but with the right cast and crew, and a proper adaptation, I suppose the comic could be transformed into a decent movie. But with this cast, and Zack Snyder directing, the film will be miserable. It will probably make a lot of money, though. I wonder if Alan Moore will be getting any.

Snyder is definitely the wrong person to direct, but I don't know if Cronenberg is right either. I'd settle with Robert Rodriguez. He's not ideal, but I can't think of anyone else. At least he would respect the original material.

The cast is not necessarily bad, but it is unimpressive. Unsympathetic characters like Rorschach or Dr. Manhattan can't anchor the movie, so Nite Owl and Ozymandias should be getting larger sections of the movie than they have in the comic. Jude Law would be fine as Ozymandias, but that doesn't seem to be happening. Actually, a lot of people could play Ozymandias, but Nite Owl is tougher; I could see Bruce Willis in that part (requires some imagination, though).

Carla Gugino is Sally Jupiter in Watchmen

Carla Gugino (Sin City) has joined the cast of Watchmen, the Warner Bros. adaptation of the DC Comics limited series.

She joins Patrick Wilson, Jackie Earle Haley, Matthew Goode, Billy Crudup, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Malin Akerman in the Warner Bros. movie, which is set in an alternate America that has passed a law banning costumed crime fighters. When one is murdered, the remaining members set out to solve the mystery.

Gugino will play Sally Jupiter, a burlesque dancer-turned-costumed heroine and sex symbol the Silk Spectre who is part of the Minutemen, a group of heroes who preceded the Watchmen. She also is the mother of the new Silk Spectre (Akerman). Gugino is expected to portray Jupiter in varying eras, playing different ages throughout the movie.

Zack Snyder (300) will direct the film, which is set to start shooting in the fall in Vancouver.
"Young men make wars and the virtues of war are the virtues of young men: courage and hope for the future. Then old men make the peace, and the vices of peace are the vices of old men: mistrust and caution." -- Alec Guinness (Lawrence of Arabia)

Stupid Zack Snyder. 300 was decent, but his style is completely wrong for Watchmen. Why not get someone with a bit more subtlety than Snyder? Why not someone like David Cronenberg?

'Watchmen' cast leaks out
Patrick Wilson, Jackie Earle Haley, Matthew Goode, Billy Crudup, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Malin Akerman will topline flick
by Zap2It.com

An official announcement will come at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, but the cast for Zack Snyder's "Watchmen" film appears to be in place.

Confirming a slew of casting rumors that have been flooding the Internet for weeks, the industry trades are saying that the long-awaited adaptation of the DC Comics classic will star Patrick Wilson, Jackie Earle Haley, Matthew Goode, Billy Crudup, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Malin Akerman.

The struggle to bring Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' 1986-1987 limited run comic to the screen as been well documented. The story is set in an alternative version of 1985 in which the United States is on the verge of nuclear war with the Soviet Union and somebody is killing former costumed heroes, crimefighters forced underground by the fearful powers that be.

Haley, a recent Oscar nominee for "Little Children," plays Rorschach, a psychologically damaged, unhinged vigilante.

Wilson, Haley's "Little Children" co-star, plays the second Nite Owl, a bird expert and inventor.

Beloved as Denny from "Grey's Anatomy," Morgan will play the Comedian, a cynical vigilante who became a mercenary in Vietnam.

Crudup ("Almost Famous"), a recent Tony winner, is Dr. Manhattan, the only true superhero in the group, who becomes a nearly all-powerful blue being after a lab accident.

Ackerman ("Entourage") will be Laurie Juspeczyk, the second Silk Spectre. Stuck in an unfulfilling relationship with Dr. Manhattan, Laurie looks for love elsewhere.

Last, but not least, we have Goode ("The Lookout," "Match Point") as Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias, a fabulously wealthy former adventurer.

"Watchmen" has an undeniably epic scale, which may have led to some budget tightening on above-the-line talent. Higher priced and profile actors including Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves and Jude Law were linking to various roles, but only as rumors.

Snyder will begin production on "Watchmen" in Vancouver this fall.

The film will be featured as part of the Warner Bros. Friday Comic-Con presentation, with the cast possibly in attendance.
