What was it about Alex Trebek? He was grounded, reliable, calm. He appreciated knowledge. He was kind and encouraging, always glad for the contestant who started out slow and then found their footing. Mostly he’s just been there, part of our lives so steadily for years on end. A good man, it seemed. A sad loss.

I don't know quite what to say about him, other than I've watched him most every weekday night for the past 35 years, and it's difficult to imagine Jeopardy -- or the world -- without him. A reminder, if we needed one, that all things pass.
