I arrived for the first time in the United States and the # 1 song, playing constantly on the radio, was Van Halen's "Jump". Great dance track. This upbeat song always reminds me of my wonderful early years in America.

Eddie had been part of the gossip columns for years with his marriage to Valerie Bertinelli. Their relationship discussed relentlessly in the Rona Barett series of movie gossip magazines which I collected from the start of the 1970s.

Sad news.

He had been battling cancer on and off for the better of two decades so although this is terrible news, it's not such a bolt out of the blue. He was a huge part of my musical development when I was younger and Van Halen's music remains a cherished part of my collection. My circle of fellow musicians are all in deep mourning for this huge loss.
