Prediction: when we look back on this day in history, learning that Michael Cohen was indeed in Prague in late summer 2016 will turn out to be way more significant than the strike on Syria -- despite the latter being the shiny object that's knocked everything else off cable news stations for the past few hours.

Syria is very much at the forefront of my mind. John Bolton is one of Trump's closest confidantes and if there's one thing we know about Trump it's that he has a strong memory for ratings. He was viewed (by idiots) as quite presidential when dealing with Syria last year. I'm quite scared.

Everyone, understandably, is caught up in their respective countries domestic politics. My own country is a basket case full of politicians on all sides that are simply not up to the job and most hell bent on eroding democracy with their own agendas that do not include the countries best interests.

However, an international issue that has been raging for years now could lead the world down a very dangerous path in coming weeks/months. It's not in the forefront of most peoples minds but it's bubbling away with no end of resolution in sight:

LOL. Most of the Daily Kos reaction was over the comment about Pelosi f*cking up the cafeteria again, taking away their freedom fries and making them eat tofu.

Mueller is supposed to be working on his report which means the vote on impeachment could come soon. No way to tell right now how these scared shitless Republicans will vote, but if the vote comes after they lose and are all lame ducks after the election, it might me a slam dunk.

This is the first story that's truly given me hope that he's going down the river. Also, is this guy a character from Veep?

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2018/4 ... mpeach-the

ANONYMOUS REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMAN:

"I read you writing about this, about wanting to say nice things when you can and criticize when you need to. He may be an idiot, but he's still the President and leader of my party and he is capable of doing some things right ... But dammit he's taking us all down with him. We are well and truly f**ked in November. Kevin [McCarthy] is already circling like a green fly circling sh*t trying to take Paul's [Ryan] job because nobody thinks he's sticking around for Nancy [Pelosi]. She's going to f**k up the cafeteria again too. (LOL) [Lord's name in vain], at least I'll probably lose too and won't have to put up with that sh*t."

"It's like Forrest Gump won the presidency, but an evil, really f*cking stupid Forrest Gump. He can't help himself. He's just a f**king idiot who thinks he's winning when people are b*tching about him. He really does see the world as ratings and attention. I hate Forrest Gump. I listen to your podcast and heard you hate it too. What an overrated piece of sh*t movie. Can you believe it beat the Shawshank Redemption?"

"I say a lot of shit on TV defending him, even over this. But honestly, I wish the motherf*cker would just go away. We're going to lose the House, lose the Senate, and lose a bunch of states because of him. All his supporters will blame us for what we have or have not done, but he hasn't led. He wakes up in the morning, sh*ts all over Twitter, sh*ts all over us, sh*ts all over his staff, then hits golf balls. F*ck him. Of course, I can't say that in public or I'd get run out of town."

"Judiciary is stacked with a bunch of people who can win re-election so long as they don't piss off Trump voters in the primary. But if we get to summer and most of the primaries are over, they just might pull the trigger if the President fires Mueller. The sh*t will hit the fan if that happens and I'd vote to impeach him myself. Most of us would, I think. Hell, all the Democrats would and you only need a majority in the House. If we're going to lose because of him, we might as well impeach the motherf**ker. Take him out with us and let Mike [Pence] take over. At least then we could sleep well at night."

"You know having Mike as President would really piss off all the right people, too. They think they hate Trump. Mike is competent," at which point he sighs and laments that there were, in his mind, more than a dozen competent choices in 2016.

Sad. I wanted to see him get crushed by Randy Bryce. It's important that we see high profile conservatives go down in flames this year. Not empty suits or batshit crazy Nazis and cowboy pedophiles. Rising stars crashing and burning. Oh well. I can always hold out hope that Beto O'Rourke defeats Ted Cruz. I know the odds are long on that one, but oh, how sweet it would be!

A here's your hat/what's your hurry? farewell to Paul Ryan -- the most overrated-by-the-press member of Congress in all the years I've followed politics. He put forth proposals supposedly balancing the budget but in fact running up huge deficits, granting huge boons to the super-wealthy -- and he was consistently praised as a policy wonk by the DC press corps, because he had so many numbers on his handout sheets. And because he flashed those baby blues.

The best to be said for him is, he's not at the Bond-vilain-evil level of Mitch McConnell, and that he has (metaphorically) better table manners than Donald Trump. But he's very much part of the disease that's been taking over the GOP for two decades and has now metastasized as the Trump administration.

This has been the best birthday present ever! (I’m fucking 40 today - gah!!) Trump is apparently in complete meltdown mode right now inside the White House. I really couldn’t tell you what will happen by week’s end but, like Tee, I think this has clearly revealed that Mueller is heading into a new (last?) phase of some sort. Things are moving at a dizzying pace.

I am somewhat relieved that Mueller seems to be pivoting from Russia to porn stars. Porn stars don't have nuclear weapons.

I know everybody sees what's going on, and I don't have anything especial to add to it, but I just thought it should be noted that Mueller seems to have pushed the pedal to the floor, and things might start happening more quickly now.

I've been losing sleep over the John Bolton appointment. One of the few sighs of relief I had during Trump's transition was that this guy was passed over. Now, I think maybe it would have been a good idea to cycle him in and out during the chaos. At this point, it's crazy to think that anybody will have any kind of staying power in the White House, but I have a very bad feeling that it could be him.

b) I completely forgot about that. I know Japan has made apologies in relation to South Korean 'comfort women' a couple of years ago, though it was widely seen as a purely political motivated gesture. I can't help thinking that no matter what Japan does in relation to it's past actions China (and South Korea) will still be antsy with them. When Chuan Lu made City of Life and Death back in 2009 the Chinese Government were very unhappy as he portrayed one Japanese soldier as human. I think Japanese Government did or tried to prevent the film from playing at a film festival.

c) By the time Canada and other countries diversify their trading, which looks like they will all have to do, Trump will hopefully be gone, but the US will end up being the loser in the long term.

Few thoughts

a) Yeah, most of the people I know are thinking very seriously about Trump launching a war of aggression. His obsession with using nuclear weapons, his warmongering cabinet, his rampant instability... all terrifying.
