Why isn't 'Dreamgirls' here?

The DGA nod has sealed it for me as well: Little Miss Sunshine.

I'm abstaining for now but am tempted to vote for Pan's Labyrinth. Even though its clearly better than at least a few of the other choices, the to-the-skies raves it's been getting, untempered by very many more restrained opinions of the film, seem out of proportion to its actually quality.

Or else I just need to see it again.

I voted for Borat. It was either that or LMS but I've met enough people - including on this board - who have seen through the artifice of LMS wheras Borat continues to receive puzzling raves.

Since Little Miss Sunshine has been singled out by the Director's Guild, I no longer feel obligated to see the remaining five before declaring it the most overrated movie of the year.

I'm giving Pan and Iwo Jima benefit of doubt -- I haven't yet seen either, but can't imagine them matching the level of hysterical over-rating achieved by Little Miss Sunshine.

What's fascinating here is the films getting the most votes are either indies, or, in the case of Borat, a studio-acquired sleeper. It's the first time I can recall since gravitating to this board that the studio movies were widely considered better than the smaller efforts.

Borat, with Babel and LMS knocking at its heels!

My pick is The Departed. It's a good movie, I won't deny that but hardly deserving all the heaps of praise it's been getting this year.

I'm actually starting to get tired of hearing about it and while I like Scorsese, I'm almost hoping for an upset victory by any other director this year.

I thought about Babel but I had to go with Borat only because it has become a major player in year-end awards. Funny film, but I do not think either it or Cohen merit the serious attention they are getting.

As of right now I'd say Little Miss Sunshine, but I've only seen four others, and liked those. So I'll abstain for awhile.

And I know most everyone here rightfully hooted and laughed at it, but Bobby should be here, considering that it got some absurdly enthusiastic reviews.

Babel.

The film is too pretentious. Rinko Kikuchi is the only saving grace of this film.
