THE worst? Worse than U-Turn? Worse than Superman IV? I had the misfortune of seeing both of those in a theater. Then again, I saw The Island on dvd. It wasn't good, but I think I gave it 2 stars. Who remembers why? :D

The other thing Transformers has going for it is legions of now-adult comic book geek fans who made Fantastic Four a success despite it being one of the worst of the super hero films to release during the summer.

I feel that Transformers can easily pass 200 million or just fall slightly short of it. Granted Bay may not be Oscar-worthy but he does have a great box-office track record before The Island. I believe we're talking about box-office numbers here instead of Oscar-worthiness. And with Steven Spielberg acting as the producer plus the very exciting trailer, I have hope that the Bay-Spielberg combo will do justice to the film. I, for one, am absolutely looking forward to it, even more so than Spidey 3 and Pirates 3.

I don't think Ratatouille and Transformes are going to pass $ 200 M, but am always glad to be surprised :D

I'm pretty sure Prince Caspian is scheduled for a summer 2008 release.

2007 is going to be the year that passing the century mark no longer matters. it used to be that making more than $100 million meant you were a hit. not any more. inflation of the dollar and movie budgets has made $100 million good only if you are a cheap comedy (THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, BORAT) or an intelligent drama (THE DEPARTED). if you are an action film, major animated film, or any type of star vehicle you need to pass the bicentennial before you are even seen as breaking even. we saw this with SUPERMAN RETURNS, THE DA VINCI CODE, and CARS. all are films that made more than $200 million, yet were considered disappointments. many movies are going to make more than $100 million but still seen as losers.
2007 is also going to be the first year with three films to pass $400 million with PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 3 leading the charge, SHREK THE THIRD and SPIDERMAN 3 coming in close, and possibly THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX joining them. this could also be the first year that all the movies in the top ten box office make more than $200 million, though that will be very difficult.
i think one of the biggest losers of the year (relatively speaking) are going to be films like LIVE FREE AND DIE HARD and RUSH HOUR 3, which are probably going to barely make back their budgets (though will make a profit overseas). The surprise hits are going to be 300 and THE NANNY DIARIES, as small or niche films that exceed expectations.
i am also predicting that this will be the first year that the combined box office of all the films released in the united states will pass $10 billion. hopefully then hollywood will shut up about how piracy is destroying their business.

here are the films listed in general order of box office gold:

--$400
Pirates Of The Caribbean 3
Shrek The Third
Spiderman 3

--$300
The Order Of The Phoenix

--$200
Ratatouille
Transformers
Prince Caspian
The Simpsons

--$100
Bourne Ultimatum
Ocean's Thirteen
Fantastic Four 2
National Treasure 2
I Am Legend
I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry
Rush Hour 3
The Nanny Diaries
Surf's Up
300
Live Free And Die Hard
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
